BEHIND CLEAR GUTS

About

Hi, I’m Libby! I’m a Holistic Nutritional Consultant with a background in psychology and a lifelong interest in food, health, and the way nutrition supports our bodies. I’ve always been fascinated by the role food plays in how we feel, function, and perform. What began as a natural curiosity gradually developed into a deeper interest in nutrition, particularly in understanding not just what we eat, but why it matters. That curiosity eventually led me to pursue nutrition professionally and create Clear Guts, a place where I could share that knowledge with others.

WHERE IT ALL STARTED

A lifelong interest in food

Growing up as a competitive swimmer, nutrition was a big part of my life. I began swimming at five years old and continued through university, finishing my varsity career at 22. Throughout those years, I developed an appreciation for how food could influence my energy, performance, recovery, and overall well-being.

But I also experienced the confusion that often comes with nutrition advice. I remember being told to increase my carbohydrate intake to fuel my training, without much explanation of what that could actually look like. As a young female athlete, I immediately associated eating more carbohydrates with gaining weight, largely because I didn’t understand the variety of foods that could provide them.

Looking back, what I needed wasn’t simply a recommendation to eat more of something. I needed to understand why it mattered, where those nutrients could come from, and how to make informed choices that worked for me.

That experience sparked a deeper curiosity about how food works in the body and the science behind nutrition. I wanted to understand how different foods could support both physical and mental well-being, not just in sport, but in everyday life.

MY EDUCATION

A little more about my background

I graduated from the University of Lethbridge with a degree in Psychology, which gave me a deeper understanding of human behaviour, motivation, and the complex relationship we have with food.

I later completed my Holistic Nutritional Consultant diploma at the Canadian School of Natural Nutrition (CSNN) where I gained the knowledge and tools to support people through evidence-informed, whole-food nutrition, while also taking a more holistic view of overall health and well-being.

These two areas of study - psychology and nutrition - complement each other and continue to shape how I work with clients today.

VISION

A bigger picture

My vision for Clear Guts is to make nutrition knowledge more accessible, approachable, and empowering.

I want to help create a world where people feel confident understanding the food they eat, rather than feeling overwhelmed by conflicting advice or dependent on someone else telling them what to do.

Through education and personalized support, I hope to give people the knowledge and confidence to make informed decisions about their nutrition, not just today, but for years to come.
